We are excited that our former undergraduate scholar Skye Faucher will be our first doctoral bridge student. Skye received her bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Fisk University in 2021. She will enroll in the Biology Master's Program at Fisk this Fall, and her research will be supervised by Prof. Saumya Ramanathan.
Our current 2nd-year FUTURE-MINDS-QB Undergraduate Scholar Leiana-Lavette will be our first accelerated-track doctoral bridge student. Leiana will start taking master-level courses in her senior year at Fisk, while finishing her dual bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. She will then enroll in a master's program at Fisk in the Fall of 2022. Her master's research will be supervised by Prof. Steven Damo.
“I was really interested [in the program] because it seems that computer science is everywhere. I would have to know some computational technology if I want to be a doctor.”
“When I received the application for the BD2K program, what sparked my interest the most was that the program combined both biology/research and computer science. It was so great being able to meet new people, broaden my horizons, and explore a field that I didn’t know I would have necessarily been interested in.”
“I became interested in the BD2K program after completing a small research project on the applications of bioinformatics for my bioinformatics class, and my mentor, Dr. Brian Nelms, advised me to apply. I enjoyed being surrounded by a group of aspiring young scientists, much like myself, and experiencing the true interdisciplinary nature of science through discussions about our educational and career goals.”
“ I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for hosting such an amazing virtual summer orientation [during the pandemic]. I truly learned a lot this past month and I have become intrigued by the different research experiences possible with computational biology.”
